Prevalence of Ovine Paramphistomes in Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Abstract

A total of 231 rumen samples of sheep were collected from slaughter houses of Chennai, out of which only 18 were found infected with adult paramphistomes. The collected paramphistomes were identied as Cotylophoron cotylophorum, Gastrothylax crumenifer, Fischoederius elongates and Paramphisomum cervi. Out of four paramphistomes, mixed infection of C. cotylophorum and G. crumenifer were more prevalent (61.11%) followed by mixed infection of C. cotylophorum, G. crumenifer, F. elongates and P. cervi (22.22%) and as single infection of C. cotylophorum (11.11%) and G. crumenifer (5,56%).
