Diagnosis of Leptospirosis by Polymerase Chain Reaction from Field Specimen in Telangana State

Abstract

The present study was taken up for rapid diagnosis of Leptospirosis by PCR by processing postmortem specimen collected from Sheep, Goat, Mouse Deer and Cow received from different parts of Telangana State. A total of 48 samples collected from 18 animals (14 Sheep, 1 Goat, 2 Mouse Deer & 1 Cow) were received with a time gap of 2-10 days between collection of specimen at field level and submission to the laboratory were subjected to PCR. 30 samples received with a gap of 2-10 days post collection collected from 9 animals exhibiting clinical signs of Leptospirosis were found positive. 18 samples collected from other 9 animals with the history of grazing over cotton fields were found negative
