Comparison of Ladakhi Donkeys with Three Other Donkey Populations of India Based on Morphometric Attributes

Abstract

The donkeys of the Ladakh region were characterized and compared for morphometric attributes with Spiti donkeys of Himachal Pradesh, Sindhi donkeys of Rajasthan and Brown type donkeys of AP. These donkeys showed signicant differences from Spiti donkeys in majority of morphometric attributes both in male and female animals. Besides differences in their adaptive traits, the Ladakhi donkeys also showed signicant differences from Brown type donkeys of AP and Sindhi donkeys in many morphometric attributes especially when female animals were compared.
