Surgical Management of Gastric Rupture in a Chippiparai Dog : A Case Report

Abstract

A two year old Chippiparai breed female dog was presented with the history of unproductive vomiting/ retching, lethargy and severe abdomen distension after fed with chicken and rice on previous day night. The case tentatively diagnosed as gastric dilatation through radiography, which revealed abdominal distention with  uid. Exploratory laparotomy was performed under general anesthesia; diagnosed as gastric rupture due to gastric dilatation and voluvlus. Gastric rupture was sutured PGA 3-0 in double layer suture pattern. Post-operatively uid therapy, antibiotics and analgesics were administered for four days. On 4th day serous discharge from site and on 5th day animal was collapsed due to secondary bacterial infection
