Pathology of Intestinal Coccidiosis in a Kid

Abstract

A three months old Tellichery kid carcass was presented at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, VCRI, Orathanadu with the history of diarrhoea for the past two days. Post-mortem examination revealed white spots of various sizes (1-3 mm) seen scattered throughout the serosa of the small intestinal wall particularly the jejunum and ileum. Microscopically, intestinal scrapings revealed numerous oocysts of Eimeria sp. Histopathologically, the intestine showed sub-acute enteritis and intestinal crypt epithelium revealed various developmental stages of Eimeria sp. Based on the above ndings the case was diagnosed as Coccidiosis.
