Occurrence and Therapeutic Management of Bovine Ocular Filariasis in Anterior Chamber of Eye in Tiruvannamalai District

Abstract

The present investigation reports the occurrence of filarial worm, Setaria spp. in anterior chamber of the eye from 6 dairy cows, one bullock and 3 calves of different villages of Tiruvannamalai district of Tamilnadu state, India. The affected animals were found to have symptom of lacrimation, closure and frequent blinking of eye lids, cloudiness of eye, presence of an intra ocular worm with vigorous movements. The worms were removed surgically from bullock only, the worms were identified as Seteria spp. through microscopy. The treated animals regained normal eye vision in 25 days of surgery.
