Abstract

Two clients presented their pet puppy a Nigerian indigenous breed of dog and an Alsatian to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Jos, with the history of a bulge at the navel. When patients were placed on dorsal recumbency, the swelling disappeared and on palpation a ring was felt. The patients were then fixed forsurgical repair (herniorraphy). To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of umbilical hernia in a Nigerian indigenous breed of dog.
