Energy and Protein Requirements of Namakkal Chicken-1

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the effect of different levels of dietary energy and protein on Namakkal chicken-1 Nine experimental diets are formulated with three levels of dietary energy (2700, 2800 and 2900 ME kcal/kg) and three levels of protein (19, 20 and 21) to form different treatment groups. All the birds was reared under open sided housing system up to 8 weeks of age and weekly body weight, feed intake and mortality was recorded. Considering body weight and weight gain, it can be concluded that TANUVAS Namakkal chicken-1 needed 2900kcal/kg ME and 19 per cent crude protein diet for optimum performance during chick phase (0-8 weeks).
