Abstract

24 Labrador obese dogs were selected based on their body condition score and body weight. The animals were randomly divided into four treatment groups with six animals in each treatment. T1 was kept as control and fed with normal diet (AAFCO, 2014) andT2, T3, T4 were fed with high-protein high-fibre, high-protein medium-fibre, and control diet supplemented with choline chloride, respectively, for a trial period of four months. The blood samples were collected and analysed for the hematological, biochemical and thyroid profile of these obese dogs. No significant difference (p>0.05) found in the hematological and biochemical parameters of the dogs except in the concentration of glucose and blood urea nitrogen. The values of glucose were lowest in T2with 75.83 ± 2.66 mg/dl and highest in control with 92.16 ± 3.55 mg/dl. Also, the thyroid profile was not altered by the weight-loss in obese dogs.
