Abstract

Flow cytometry is a technique that allows for qualitative and quantitative assessment of multiple parameters of individuals cells and particles and has become an essential diagnostic in veterinary research because of its flexibility and the reliability of results. It helps in identification of regulatory T cells, their lineage and classification, characterizing and measuring cytokines and other proteins. It also evaluates several aspects of platelets, including quantitation of immature platelets, detection of anti-platelet antibodies, and activated platelets.Flow cytometry has its application in the measurement of antioxidants during oxidative stress with small volume of blood. The combined application of Flow cytometry in the field of haematology and oncology by facilitating evaluation of immune function through immunophenotyping with panel of fluorescently labelled antibodies to assess expression of cell markers and determination of DNA content of cells with fluorescent dyes will help to evaluate the functional and dysfunctional states of blood cells in a more accurate way.
