Abstract

Leptospirosis is a globally emerging zoonotic disease which has a signi cant impact on animal and human health. In this study, DNA from two rat isolates was extracted and subjected to partial rpoB gene sequencing. In BLAST analysis, the aligned sequences show a 100 % sequence similarity with L. interrogans species. Also, the positioning of rat isolates in phylogenetic analysis indicates that the isolates were grouped under the same pathogenic clade I with L. interrogans serovar Canicola and L. interrogans serovar Autumnalis and con rmed that all the isolates were pathogenic type

Key Words: Leptospira interrogans, characterization, rpoB gene sequencing – rats.
