Surgical Management of Uterine Rupture in a Bitch

Abstract

A four-year-old Labrador bitch was presented with the history of dystocia for past 24 hours and induction was done twice with oxytocin. As the bitch was unstable and recumbent, emergency caesarean section was performed. On laparotomy, the uterus was ruptured and the contents were in the peritoneal cavity and ovariohysterectomy was performed. Post operatively animal was maintained on antibiotics and analgesics and the bitch recovered uneventfully.
