Abstract

A total of 288 broiler chicks were divided into 9 groups of 32 each and each group was divided into 4 sub-groups of 8 each to collect random samples. The 9 groups were given different combinations of dietary treatments from day old to 42 days of age. The dietary combinations contained different levels of Fenugreek powder, Garlic powder and Black pepper powder along with broiler feed based on age as shown in Table I. At the end of 42 days, random birds were selected from each group, slaughtered and muscle cholesterol level of thigh and breast muscles were estimated by standard procedure. Results showed that muscle cholesterol levels of birds in group 9 which received 10 g Fenugreek powder + 10 g Garlic powder + 2 g Black pepper powder per kg of broiler feed showed significant decrease in muscle cholesterol level as shown in Table I and Table IV. The anticholesterolemic effect of fenugreek and phytochemical present in garlic significantly reduced the cholesterol level in treated group compared with the control group.
