Prevalence Study on Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders in Cattle Brought to Teaching Veterinary Hospital at Namakkal, Tamil Nadu

Abstract

Ileus represents one of the potentially life threatening abdominal emergencies in cattle. Cattle brought to Veterinary College and Research Institute hospital, Namakkal were screened for a period two years from April 2017 to March 2019. Cattle with gastrointestinal motility disorders were subjected to detailed clinical, haemato-biochemical, radiographic, ultrasonographic and endoscopic examinations as per standard techniques. The prevalence of gastrointestinal motility disorders in cattle was 12.94 per cent (410 animals) of various medical disease conditions. Highest prevalence was noticed in female cattle, Jersey crossbred cattle, in 4 - 5 years age group, last trimester of pregnancy and during March and July months
