Nematodosis Infection on Monopterus albus (Sybranchiformes: Sybranchidae) from Traditional Market in Banyuwangi, Indonesia

Abstract

Monopterus albus is one of the freshwater commodities that is highly consumed, but limited information available about the nematod infection on M.albus, especially from traditional markets in Banyuwangi. The study aimed to determine the nematod infection on M.albus from traditional markets in Banyuwangi. Three hundred M.albus (68.15±13.52 gram, 39.48±4.18 cm) were collected from markets of Banyuwangi, Rogojampi, Srono, Cluring and Genteng. Forty two (14%) M.albus examined were infected with larvae (L3) of two nematodes Eustrongylides ignotus (63.2%) and Pingus sinensis (36.8%) that were found in liver (32.4%), muscle (1.2%), kidney (0.4%), abdominal cavity (24.8%) and intestinal cavity (41.2%).
