Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Polygonum minus leaves ethanol extract on histopathological changes in aortic wall of mice induced by cadmium chloride. Thirty male mice were divided into  ve groups and were administered via intragastric gavage for 21 days. Treatments were negative control (CMC Na 0.5% solution + aquadest), positive control (CMC Na 0.5% solution + 12 mg/kg bw of cadmium chloride), T1, T2, and T3 (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg bw of Polygonum minus leaves extract respectively + 12 mg/kg bw of cadmium chloride). Mice treated with Polygonum minus leaves ethanol extract 400 and 800 mg/kg bw displayed signicantly reduced aortic wall damage (p<0.05) compared with positive control. Thus the present ndings suggest that Polygonum minus leaves ethanol extract could protect aortic wall against cadmium chloride exposure in mice

Key Words: Polygonum minus, cadmium chloride, Mus musculus, aorta
