Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of Tithonia diversifolia as an antidiabetic agent on blood glucose levels and renal and pancreatic histopathology of Wistar rats. A total of 24 Wistar rats were divided into three treatment groups i.e., (C-) no treatment, (C+) induced diabetic nephropathy, (T1) induced diabetic nephropathy and given ethanolic extract of T. diversifolia. The results showed that in T1 group, post-treatment blood glucose levels decreased significantly (p<0.05). Renal and pancreatic histopathology of rats in this group showed that necrosis and inflammation of cells decreased significantly (p<0.05). It can be concluded that T. diversifolia has antidiabetic effects and reduce blood glucose levels and also reduce inflammation of renal and pancreatic cells in diabetic nephropathy induced Wistar rats.
