Abstract

Cytogenetic investigation of the Alambadi breed revealed the modal diploid chromosome number of Bos indicus. The karyotype showed that all autosomes were acrocentric, while X-chromosome was sub-metacentric and the Y-chromosome being acrocentric conrming the Bos indicus type. The relative length of the autosomes varied from 1.55 to 5.26 per cent. The contributions of X- and Y-chromosomes were 4.64 and 1.64 per cent, respectively.

Key Words: Alambadi, karyotype, cytogenetic characterisation
