Abstract

A study was carried out in western part of Tamil Nadu to identify the constraints faced by the farmers engaged in Peruvidai chicken production. Respondents were chosen on the basis of stratified random sampling technique. The data were collected from each respondent through a semi-structured interview schedule and analysed using Garrett’s ranking technique. The major constraints faced by the Peruvidai chicken rearing farmers in the order of importance were; mortality / diseases (71.34%), shrinkage of land for foraging (64.15%), lack of finance (60.02%), non-availability of quality chicks (52.70%), non-availability of quality feed (50.85%), delay or lack in getting technical advice (50.72%), predation (49.93%), difficulty in getting bank loan (47.29%), marketing (29.67%) and source of water (23.34%). The improvement made in these constraints may enhance Peruvidai chicken productivity.
