Abstract

The prevalence of ticks in sheep and goats was studied from Perambalur district of TamilNadu. A total of 1100 sheep and goats (400 sheep, 700 goats) were examined and 557 (51.00%) were found positive for tick infestation. It was observed that 57.00% sheep and 47.00% goats were infested with ticks. Ear was the commonest site for tick infestation both in sheep (85.96%) and goats (62.00%), followed by thighs in sheep (5.26%) and around eyes in goats (11.55%). Ticks collected from sheep and goats belonged to the genera Rhipicephalus, Hyalomma and Haemaphysalis spp.
